Planets is definately out... it is just too much work to host on linux and I think I deleted the website and all the scripts.
The new version of LCOG is ready but no client :-(
Might manage to create a web client sometime over christmas but don;t hold your breath.
In the meantime another idea is a game of diplomacy. slow pace, very simple rules. We played a game a few years back that worked quite well.

bloodbowl game on pc - i've played this against my brother. the turn-based implementation is a nigh on perfect version of the boardgame. the main thing that lets the game down is a truly woeful league orgnasing UI. if u can get past that it's a good game.

original version:
http://github.com/salin/lcog-client-v1/tree/master
let me know if I've missed any files out and i'll put them up, think everything should be there.

Ok laziness has won.
The source code for the second build of the client is here:
http://github.com/salin/lcog-client/tree/master
It's incomplete however. The build form needs completing, various button actions need hooking up etc. Click on the technology name to research it, think order still needs to be done. Use the report101.xml and playerfile.xml in the /bin as examples of the XML I have been using. It should compile and run however.
I shall put the original version of the client in lcog-client-old in a sec.
Differences between the original and the new build is that I've put back in visual studio designer support for most of the forms/controls - hence will need tweaking to work in Mono.
Good luck:P
