How to write markdown

It's really simple, just type your message as you would like it to appear - no need to add <p> tags or anything like that.

In addition there are a number of simple ways of changing the look of your text.

# a line starting with a hash is a header

## a line with two hashes is a subheader

You can also use *asterisks to make text bold* or even *double asterisks to make it bold and italic*.

You can add hyperlinks by putting the link text in square brackets followed by the URL in normal brackets e.g. [jimcode](http://www.jimcode.org) becomes jimcode.

Images are virtually the same as links but prefixed with an exclamation mark e.g. ![only imperial stormtroopers are so precise](http://www.jumpgates.co.uk/images/icons/stormtrooper.gif) becomes only imperial stormtroopers are so precise

You can find a full markdown reference here
